Transformational Geometry Quiz Thursday, April 21

Hello,
We will be having a quiz this Thursday. Students will need to be able to both perform and recognize transformations including, rotations, reflections, and translations. In addition to this, they should be able to perform and recognize successive and combined transformations (ie., find the image after a rotation, and two different reflections). We will be doing review in class today and tomorrow.

Transformational Geometry

Hello,
We have just begun our unit on Transformational Geometry (translations, reflections, rotations).
The following is document of web links as well as a document with a series of informational/activity websites for practice.

Quiz Postponed!

We were to have a quiz tomorrow but for a number of reasons, I have pushed this quiz back until this Friday, March 4th.

Sample Questions and Quiz

Here is a document with some sample questions that we have been (and will be) working on leading up to a quiz on Volume and Capacity on Wednesday, March 2. All students should be able to access it with their ocdsb account.

This week

Hello all,
This week we will be continuing our measurement unit by looking at the Volume and Capacity of rectangular and triangular prisms (ie. V = length x width x height or V= area of base x h).

We have been working on, and will be finishing this week, a synthesizing activity using the book 'The Rabbits' by Shaun Tan. Using different texts and videos, students have been putting the information together to come up with opinions and ideas surrounding the meaning of the book.

Tomorrow will be our first ski date of the year. Reminder that we will be meeting in the school parking lot at 7:05. The weather is looking promising but please be sure to dress appropriately.

Thanks!

The Lost Thing

This week we are studying 'The Lost Thing', a book and short film by Shaun Tan. There is much discussion that can can arise from the video (differences, conformity, modern society, childhood, imagination etc. I have included the link to the short film.

Weekly Math Review

I am including the link to our weekly math review involving finding surface area in case it did not make it home or has been misplaced. Thank you!

Skiing - Thursday, February 4th

A reminder of our ski trip this coming Thursday. Fingers crossed for the weather!

Math and English

Hello all,
We have recently wrapped up with finding areas of parallelograms and triangles in our measurement unit. The next part of this unit will involve finding the surface area of prisms (finding the area of individual faces and adding them together for the total) as well as measuring capacity.

In English, students have been using Google slides to create their own Choose Your Own Adventure Story based on an illustration from the book The Mysteries of Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg. Feel free to ask them to show you at home what they have created. They all have access through Google.

Geometry Quiz - Friday, January 15

There will be a math quiz on Friday of this week. It will cover all of the material that was on the weekly review that was sent home last Friday. This review homework is due on Thursday so that we can take it up as preparation for the quiz. Thank you!

Welcome back!

Welcome back to the first week of the New Year here at school. I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday. I wanted to let you know what we have been working on.
In language, we have been doing some reading responses, grammar, and will eventually be starting a novel study.
In math, we are continuing our geometry unit. We have been reviewing measuring and creating angles, creating polygons (using a ruler and protractor). We are currently spending time looking at line symmetry, rotational symmetry, and sorting polygons based on symmetry. Below is a link to a symmetry slide show for students to use for practice and review.
